Ágata de Pinho has worked as an actor for over 20 years. In 2022, their debut film AZUL premiered at the IFF of Rotterdam and went on to screen at numerous other festivals. At the Portuguese Short Film Awards, the film received major accolades, including Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Cinematography.
In 2023, Baan — the first fiction feature by Leonor Teles, co-written by Ágata — had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival.
Their second short film, Raw+Porous, premiered in 2025 at IndieLisboa.
Ágata is currently developing a first feature, Femmes de Ménage. The project has received Writing and Development support through the Portuguese–Luxembourg Fund and, more recently, Production Funding from the Portuguese Film Institute (ICA).
2025 CRUA+POROSA
2022 AZUL
Ágata, a Portuguese filmmaker, moves to Luxembourg to work as a cleaner and finds community with other immigrant women who are fighting against their employer’s exploitation. Femmes de Ménage explores themes of gender, social class, the immigrant experience and the undervalued labor that sustains society.
I'm looking forward to the Locarno Residency as a unique opportunity to develop my first feature film in a focused and inspiring environment, with the support and feedback essential to shaping its creative vision.
