Pardi di Domani is a cornerstone of the Locarno Film Festival’s mission to foster dialogue between generations and traditions and to support the filmmakers who will define the future of cinematic expression. This year’s edition features 40 world premieres across three competitions and from 25 countries, offering audiences a glimpse into the possible pathways the cinema of the future might take. In the Concorso Internazionale and the Concorso Nazionale, many fresh voices find their first international home, giving their voice expression in front of the international industry.

As for the Concorso Corti d’Autore, whether it is Une fenêtre plein sud (A South Facing Window) by the Mongolian Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir, Slet 1988 by the Serbian director Marta Popivoda, Su cane est su miu (The Dog Is My Dog) by the prominent Italian director Salvatore Mereu, or A Very Straight Neck by the acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Neo Sora, Cairo Streets by award-winning Moroccan writer Abdellah Taïa (Prix Décembre for his book Le bastion des larmes) or Histerični napad smeha (Hysterical Fit of Laughter) by the Serbo-Croatian duo Matija Gluščević and Dušan Zorić, Nang Norn (The Sleeping Beauty) by the Laotian director Mattie Do or Solitudes by the Canadian Ryan McKenna, Index by the well-known Romanian filmmaker Radu Muntean or Späternte (Late Harvest) by Katharina Huber – the German director who won the Best Emerging Director Award at Locarno in 2023 for her feature Ein schöner Ort – these remarkable works highlight how filmmakers, well-versed in feature-length storytelling, draw creative strength and inspiration from the short form.
